This question cannot be answered in a generalized way. In principle, the following applies: If you would like to have wrinkles filled in that have resulted from a loss of volume in the skin or if you would like an optical correction of certain areas (e.g. nose, lips, chin) and there are no contraindications, a hyaluronic acid injections is recommended.

If, on the other hand, expression lines are present, an injection of botulinum toxin may be appropriate. In many cases, a combination of both substances is the optimal solution. It is therefore important to have a comprehensive consultation with an experienced doctor. He or she can give you a personal recommendation after assessing your individual case.

To be on the safe side, filler injections should not be performed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Certain diseases as well as the permanent intake of medications such as antibiotics or cortisone are also contraindications.

There are cosmetic studios that offer inexpensive injections. However, these are often illegal and may pose unnecessary risks to the patient.

In Switzerland, medical products (such as hyaluronic fillers) may only be used by doctors or specially trained nurses under medical supervision. He or she should conduct a comprehensive consultation and listen to your ideas and wishes. An injectable should always be planned and never done between doors. During the consultation, make sure that the chemistry between you and your doctor is right and that he or she seems competent and trustworthy. Also ask where your doctor has been trained and whether he or she is an instructor. If so, that's a good sign. Medical companies like to hire reputable doctors to help them improve their products.

No tattoo, piercing or permanent make-up should be applied six weeks before the treatment. Also (dental) operations should be so long ago.

The last vaccination should be at least four weeks ago.

No infection (e.g. cold) or dental treatment (including bleaching or professional teeth cleaning) should have taken place two weeks beforehand, as these activate the immune system, which could therefore react to the filler and reject it.

Also, make sure you take good care of your skin, especially in the case of lip treatment. The skin should be soft and elastic so that the volume build-up is more successful. Brittle skin is more likely to suffer from feelings of tension after an injectable and may even crack under certain circumstances.

To prevent swelling, you can take homeopathic remedies such as arnica globules. Pineapple extract can also be useful due to its anti-inflammatory effect.

An effect is visible immediately. However, it takes a few days for the hyaluron to work its way into the tissue and bind water. At a follow-up appointment, the doctor checks the final result and, if necessary, injects a little more filler.
